There are several reasons why people typically wear khaki colored clothes on safari; one is because there is so much dust. White or dark colored outfits show the dust quite clearly, while khaki does not.
Never wear blue colors on safari, as this color attracts the tsetse fly, a biting insect that can carry dengue, a form of sleeping sickness. Also, bright or large-patterned clothing can provoke the larger animals. Khaki blends into the landscape better.
Do not try to blend into the landscape by wearing camouflage, however. If you are not a member of a military group, you can be arrested for wearing camo in Africa.
Take along a light sweater and jacket as some parts places can get very cold at night, especially during September, June, and July. Wear comfortable clothes rather than some huge hiking outfit, as it will only tire you during mountain climbing and hiking.
