The most common cause of infertility in men is a problem encountered regarding their sperm. Either they have a low sperm count or they have sperm with poor characteristics. Sperm with the latter conditions cannot move rapidly in the right direction or may be abnormal in shape. Some of the conditions that may contribute to these sperm problems are:
- Under-developed testes;
- Swollen scrotum veins;
- Other infections such as gonorrhea or tuberculosis;
- Injury to the testicles; and
- Chronic prostate infections.
