The success rate of assisted reproductive technology varies and depends on several factors, including:
- The age of both the man and the woman;
- Reasons of the fertility problem;
- Type of procedure they opt to use;
- Whether the egg is frozen or fresh; and
- Whether the embryo is frozen or fresh.
The United States Center for Disease Prevention normally gathers statistics regarding the success rate of infertility cases treated using ART. According to their 2003 report, the percentage of such cases that resulted in a healthy baby were as follows:
- 37.3 percent in women under age of 35
- 30.2 percent in women ages 35 to 37
- 20.2 percent in women ages 37 to 40
- 11.0 percent in women ages 41 and 42
