When ordering from a florist, you have to take the time factor into consideration. Most florists only accept a set number of orders per day.
The best advice is for you to contact a florist at least three months prior to a wedding or any similar occasion. Generally, you should make an order 30 to 90 days before your proposed delivery date. In this way, the florist is able to prepare your flowers and other orders well.
For funerals, of course, it is impossible to give that much notice, but you should still order funeral flowers as far before the funeral as possible.
