The first time you meet your adoptive child, do not bombard him or her with questions, but set aside some time to bond with the child. A warm smile or hug will be relevant. You can also start by introducing yourself and letting him know what you want to be called. Be friendly. You can ask him basic questions such as:
- How are you today?
- What do you want to do today?
You can also ask about his interests and hobbies. If he chooses not to answer your questions, do not push. Give him some time to adjust. At a later time, you can ask questions again. Make the child feel he is part of your family.
