The shooting guard or SG is one of the five traditional positions of players on a team. Often, a shooting guard is leaner, shorter and faster than the forwards. They are the ones who make a higher volume of shots and guard the best defensive man of the opposing team. They are also known as two-guards, twos, and off-guards.
In some teams, they ask the shooting guards to bring up the ball. These players are commonly called combo guards. Another type of player can switch from being a shooting guard to being a forward. These are called swingmen.
