Aging is one reason why women experience hair loss. Some organs in the body may not produce the same amount of hormones, like estrogen, and this can be a principal cause of hair loss in women.
The complete absence of testosterone can also be a cause of hair loss. Even women have testosterone; however, it is normally found in lesser amounts compared to men. It is also responsible for hair growth. Without it, women can experience hair loss, especially during old age when the production of testosterone decreases.
Genetic makeup is the strongest factor in hair loss. If one of her parents suffers from it, her hair loss is almost certainly genetic.
Certain medical treatments, such as chemotherapy, can also cause a temporary hair loss.
