The down in comforters is usually a waste product that came from ducks and geese, but the most common source of down comes from the white goose. However "down" can also come from gray geese, gray ducks, or white ducks.
In some countries you can still get comforters made with high-quality goose down and no waste products, but of course they are very expensive.
