After an intensive workout, you may have used up most of the energy sources in your body. You need to replenish these in order to be ready for your activities for the rest of the day. Here are the things you should eat after working out:
- Right after – The moment you get out of that exercise machine, you should eat a small snack that is rich in carbohydrates to restore your muscle-glycogen levels. You can buy special workout candy bars that are rich in carbohydrates.
- After an hour – Have a good meal that has a lot of protein, such as chicken or tuna. This helps to repair your damaged muscle tissues. You should also include complex carbohydrates in your meal in order to restore glycogen levels in your body.
These are some of the things you should eat after working out. However, you should also remember to drink plenty of water to rehydrate your body. To know how much water you should drink, the rule of the thumb is drink 2 cups of water for every pound lost.
