The amount of your donation that actually goes to those in need depends on the charitable institutions you work with. As much as possible, most of the monetary donations should be given to those who need them most, with only a small percentage going to cover administrative expenses of the charity. In Washington, for instance, there were 110 registered charities, although some of them reported only 49 percent of the monetary donations going to their clients. On the other hand, some posted an allocation of more than 95 percent going to the needy.
In case of donations in the form of goods, those should be allocated entirely for the charity's clients.
