It depends on your preference. Cotton is much more expensive than polyester but is much softer and more comfortable. Cotton is also more stretchable and, therefore, molds to your body and provides maximum strength and comfort.
Although generally more comfortable, there are drawbacks to cotton. Cotton is more susceptible to mold, mildew, and damage from UV rays. Likewise, polyester hammocks are more durable and better suited to withstand the elements.
It's really just a matter of preference.
