Treatments for addiction involve medication and psychiatric help. With both of these treatments, drug and alcohol addiction can be treated and overcome. It is important to note that both of these treatments work hand-in-hand to allow the patient to fully recover.
The fact is that addiction affects a person both mentally and physically. Physically, the body will develop a need for substances found in alcohol and drugs, thus causing cravings. In turn, the body triggers the brain to believe the body needs a particular drug or alcohol in order to survive, thus causing the dependency. Thus, if one of the two type of treatment (physical and mental) fails, the treatment will be unsuccessful, and the patient will return to dependency on his/her alcohol or drug addiction.
