Books should be stored in a stable, cool, dry area. In short, there should be good air circulation in the location where you store your books.
Books should not be stacked directly against walls but should be no less than three inches away from the wall to promote motion of air around the books.
If your books are on shelves, the books should stand vertically. Books should also be spaced so that the shelves are full, preventing books from leaning because this can damage the book’s binding. If the shelves are not full, you can also use bookends to hold the books upright.
