What is roof pitch and how is it different from slope?

The pitch is the measure of the incline of the roof. It is measured by getting the vertical measurement of the roof over its horizontal measurement. For instance, “6 pitches” would indicate 6 inches over 12 inches.
Pitch is different from slope only in how it is expressed. Slope is usually expressed in a simple fraction, while the pitch is expressed either as whole number (as in the above-mentioned example) or in degrees. However, for practical purposes, roof pitch is the same thing as roof slope.
