Flashing is a type of protection placed around objects protruding from the roof of a house or building. Examples of these protruding objects are pipes and chimneys. Flashing deflects water away from the seams of the roofing material.
There are two types of flashing: metal and rubber. Rubber flashing is quite popular because it is made of synthetic material, although metal flashing is still widely used.
