A soffit describes the underneath of any construction component like the underneath of an arch or the underneath of a flight of stairs.
In the roofing industry, soffits can be used on the underside of the ceiling or a roof overhang, cantilever, or mansard. It lessens maintenance on hard-to-paint areas, provides enough ventilation to the attic, and contributes to the overall appearance of the house.
