A valley is a section where two roof planes join at an angle, when the join is lower than the rest of the roof. The exact angle is dependent on the structure beneath the roof.
Roof valleys are the parts where proper shingling and drainage must be most carefully observed, because valleys will easily develop leaks if the shingles are not water-tight or if there is an obstruction to good drainage. All the water and debris that fall onto the roof eventually work their way towards the valleys.
