The different types of lighting are: incandescent, tungsten-halogen, compact fluorescent, tubular fluorescent, and HID (high-density discharge).
Incandescent lights (like the common household light bulb) have relatively short lifespans, generally 1000 to 3000 hours of use. These are also the least efficient type of lighting.
Tungsten-halogen is a type of incandescent light that has become gradually more popular in recent years. It generates a more intense, "whiter" light than standard incandescent bulbs.
Compact fluorescent lights are a type of fluorescent light but generate a "warmer" color than tubular fluorescent bulbs, giving off a light more similar to incandescent lamps. It combines some standard features of other light fixtures.
Tubular fluorescent lights are shaped like long, thin tubes. They have a smaller diameter but are more efficient than other types of lights. They also have a magnetic ballast that the light fixture depends on.
HID is a type of lighting that has a high output of visible light. Its components are mercury, metal halide, vapor and high-pressure sodium. These are sometimes called "sodium halide" or "sodium vapor" lights.
