Although exercise is one of the best things for fibromyalgia, exercising the most painful area should be avoided. Patients must be careful not to overdo physical activity because this may trigger a relapse.
Patients with fibromyalgia should do exercises that are gentle and low-impact, such as walking and bicycling. Patients should start their exercise program slowly. Some muscle soreness is normal when starting to exercise, but sharp pain may be a sign of overworked muscles.
