Carrying backpacks can hurt your back if you are carrying too much weight, because it puts too much strain on your back. Backpacks are used for carrying more items than can normally be carried by your hands or arms alone; however, if this leads to overloading, then your back, shoulders and neck can be strained. Gear in the backpack should have a reasonable weight to avoid straining your back.
