Different backpack manufacturers use different fabrics, according to the pack's design and purpose.
- G-30 Fabric is 75 percent lighter than other fabrics and is injected with silicone, causing it to stretch under pressure instead of tearing or locking together.
- G-70 Fabric is twice as strong as G-30 and is appropriate for environments demanding greater strength and durability.
- 140 Denier Dyneema balances weight and strength. It uses polyethylene fibers having a structure similar to a diamond giving high tenacity from tearing and abrasive factors.
- 210 Denier High Tenacity Nylon is the major material on the backpack's body, providing a perfect balance of being lightweight, waterproof, and resistant to tearing and abrasion.
- 420 Denier High Tenacity DynaTech Nylon is used in backpack parts that should have higher resistance to abrasion.
- 500 Denier High Tenacity Cordura Nylon gives good tear strength and waterproofing.
- 630 Denier Super Packcloth is a material made of smooth nylon having equal diameter threads running both vertically and horizontally. It is shiny in appearance and slick to the touch. It is also resistant to water, abrasions, and punctures.
- Shelter-Rite or 1000 Denier Nylon is a fabric injected with vinyl for complete waterproofing and exceedingly high tear strength.
- AeroTech Mesh is woven three-dimensional mesh, promoting breathability and airflow. It is often found on selected back panels, shoulder harnesses and waist belts.
