A toaster does not really need high maintenance. However, to maintain its cleanliness you should regularly clean the outside part of the appliance using a wet cloth and a bit of washing liquid.
Crumbs gather in a toaster and these should occasionally be removed, usually by simply pulling out the crumb tray, dumping the crumbs, and wiping it clean.
Never use an abrasive cleaning product or one that contains alcohol. Just use mild dishwashing liquid when cleaning the toaster. And always unplug the toaster from the electrical outlet before you clean it.
