Hand-washing of a backpack is only recommended if it was immersed in or exposed to salt water. Immediately air dry the pack in the shade after hand-washing. Never machine wash a backpack or put it in a dryer.
Avoid immersing backpacks in water for long periods of time because it can cause interior polyurethane coating delamination. The polyurethane is the coating which keeps backpack water-resistant.
It is advisable to use a soft cloth and warm water in cleaning backpacks. Use mild soap on the outside but never on the inside part of the backpack.
