It was Dwight Gooden. He was named Rookie of the Year on November 20, 1984, just four days after his 20th birthday.
Dwight Gooden has been brilliant in his career and his level of enthusiasm is superb. He was the greatest pitcher ever seen in the league. He is like Hercules, who strangled serpents while still in his crib. Gooden, even from an improbably young age, seemed set on an unswerving course toward greatness.
