Major depression is the most serious type of depression. More severe and serious symptoms are found in this depression than in other types.
Sometimes major depression can result from a particularly disturbing incident in your life, or it may develop gradually because of various personal frustrations and life struggles. Some people seem to develop the signs of major depression with no apparent life problems.
Major depression may happen once because of a major emotional trauma, react to healing, and then not happen again as long as you live. This is called “single-episode depression.”
Some people are inclined to have repeated depression, with events of depression followed by periods of years without depression, followed by another major depression, typically in reaction to another distress. This is called "continuing depression."
The healing process for both these types of depression is similar, but usually takes longer for continuing depression.
