A starting battery is intended to get an engine's combustion to continue without interruption. It has a lot of thin plates, which enables it to release a large amount of current very quickly, but for just a short time.
On the other hand, a starting battery cannot withstand being discharged deeply. The majority of starter batteries can only stand complete discharge for a few minutes before they ruined.
