Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is a mood disorder felt by many people during winter months. It is characterized by a seasonal depression, the “down” feeling. The symptoms of SAD normally start in the late fall, when there is less daylight. The symptoms may not start to subside until late winter or spring, when the days begin to get longer again.
Symptoms of Seasonal Affective Disorder include:
*Excessive eating and sleeping, with a weight increase during the fall or winter months.
*Complete recovery during the spring or summer months.
*Seasonal episodes of depression considerably outnumber non-seasonal episodes.
*A craving for sweet or starchy foods.
