For most people, the possibility of developing depression is about 5 to 6 percent. However, some people are more susceptible because of their genes. If you have an identical twin and your twin suffers from depression, there is a 60 percent possibility that you will, too.
Since identical twins share identical genes, this explains that while genes have a significant influence in depression, other non-genetic (environmental) factors are involved, as well.
