How do I scrape the texture off of my ceiling?

If the texture on your ceiling is not too heavy, you will only need to skim over it. All you have to do is use an 8-inch tapping knife and a joint compound and go over it, scraping the texture off. You will need to do it two times to completely remove the texture. Position the knife at a 45-degree angle for best results.
Start with small areas at a time, around two to three square feet, then move to the next section. Let it dry and you can apply the second coat. After the coat is dry, you can now smooth it with sandpaper.
