Sagging ceilings are common in older houses; most of them are a hodgepodge of crevices and cracks. In order to fix it, you need to have expertise in plastering, which can be a tiresome task. If you prefer the do-it-yourself way of fixing your ceiling, one of the best alternatives is to tighten the loose plaster with washers to make it firm and stabilize it. Afterwards, you need to cover the whole surface with thin wallboard panels.
The first phase of your repair is to repair the crevices and cracks by using patching plaster and to tighten the loose plaster to the lath by using plaster washers, which are small metal discs fastened with four-inch drywall screws.
The second phase involves the installation of thin wallboard and finishing it with tape and compound. You will also need to sand it to make the surface smooth.
