Accidental drowning is one of the most tragic things that can happen, especially since a home swimming pool is meant to be a place of fun and recreation, not tragedy. To help prevent this possibility, do the following:
- Install a tall, sturdy fence around the pool. With a chain link fence, the installation of vertical fence slats is also helpful.
- Keep the gate to the pool locked at all times when you are not using the pool.
- Train your own children never to go past the fence without your permission, but also bear in mind that many drowning accidents occur when outsiders gain access to the pool without your knowledge. To prevent this, you may want to install an alarm to warn you when anyone approaches the pool. The alarm can, of course, be turned off while you are using the pool.
