Ink is an important component of a pen, and varies according to the type of pen. Here is the difference:
- Fountain pen - The ink used is water-based. It has an element called dye which is commonly used rather than pigment. It is slower to dry and relatively transparent in appearance.
- Ball point pen - The ink used is alcohol-based, which makes it thicker and also lets it dry almost immediately. It also makes use of dye for coloring purposes. Ballpoint ink works on thinner sheets of paper because the ink does not seep into the paper as it does with water-based inks.
