The best way to potty train a puppy is through paper training. You can start teaching the puppy in its sixth to eighth week. When a puppy is properly paper trained, he will potty only on a spot covered with newspapers that can be picked and discarded easily.
Choose a spot away from the puppy's food dishes and bed to begin paper training. Place your puppy on the newspapers and tell him to go potty. He will not understand this at first, but do this often after the puppy has eaten or taken a drink, and he will soon catch on. During this stage, the puppy should be confined to a space that is big enough to accommodate his playing and running.
