It is not safe to have pet snakes, especially if you have children with compromised immune systems. Snakes are considered high-risk animals and are a common source of salmonella infection in children.
If you already had a snake before your children were born, keep it away from children under five years old, and teach your older children always to wash their hands after handling the snake.
