To store your rug properly, use a piece of cloth or a sheet to wrap it. Never use a sealed plastic bag. Rugs need some air and they may rot and mildew inside a plastic bag. You can also roll it up and store it in a box. Never put them in damp, warm, humid, or unventilated rooms. If you do, molds, musty odor, and discoloration of fabric may occur.
If it is a wool rug, you should wrap some mothballs into it. You should also check your rug regularly while it is in storage.
