As all those signs say: "Fasten your seatbelt." This is the single most important thing you can do to make your car safer.
Your child should ALWAYS be buckled up securely in the car. There are several car accessories that you can purchase for ensuring child safety while on a ride.
Make sure that the car also has all the necessary equipment and hardware installed on it for safety purposes, and that it is in working order.
Replace your tires promptly whenever they show wear.
Be sure your steering and brakes are properly functioning at all times.
Finally, keep your car well maintained so that the "small stuff" like wipers, headlights, turn signals, and horn are always in working order. This "small stuff" can save your life.
