Fiber optic cables are being used everywhere in today's world. They are used in telephone systems and cable TV, for internet connection, and even for medical imaging. Fiber optic cables are strands of optically pure glass that are as thin as a human hair. These cables can carry data more reliably than copper wires, and they can carry much more of it. Data also travel very fast since the cable uses light instead of electricity to transmit signals.
