I have heard bamboo is very invasive. What is the best way to contain its roots?

One of the best ways to contain bamboo roots is to put it in a pot. If you see shoots coming out of an improvised container, you can just cut them off.
When bamboo is planted in the ground, you may contain its roots by burying a solid yard-type barrier around the plant.
