When a lens is brought down into the water, the lens becomes clearer. However, when the water penetrates into the chamber or the hollow place between the objective lens and the eyepiece, the tendency of the lenses is to blur. That is why there are binoculars available that do not allow water to penetrate into the chamber. These binoculars are regarded as waterproof binoculars.
