An Associate degree prepares you for yet more education, normally a Bachelors degree, or trains you in a specific field or expertise. With an Associate degree, you are actually given a sub-professional accreditation or certification in the field you studied or trained for. An Associate of Arts in Accounting or an Associate of Arts in Health Administration therefore accredits someone as trained or knowledgeable in these fields, thus offering him or her better job chances.
While most employers prefer a Bachelor degree, some employers do go for Associate degrees, depending on the field. Some people who are already employed might also get an Associate degree for purposes of promotion or job advancement.
Depending on the institution, many Associate degrees are recognized by companies, businesses and other institutions of higher education as on a par with their standards.
