There are a lot of questions regarding DSL and cable, including questions about speed, price and availability. Theoretically, cable can carry more bandwidth and thus can provide more speed. However, cable signals deteriorate rapidly under heavy usage. So if you are living in a populated area, it is advisable to use DSL. Pricing between DSL and cable today are pretty much the same.
In terms of availability, however, cable can sometimes provide where DSL cannot. However, most of the areas where DSL cannot cover these days are also not served by cable.
To get broadband internet in rural areas, you can call several DSL and cable internet providers and inquire whether they serve the area where you live.
