Typically, an Associate degree is a two-year program, usually taken at a community college, although some universities also offer Associate degree programs. An Associate degree is a preparation for higher studies, usually a Bachelors degree. Very much like a crash course, it trains one in a particular field of specialization and allows for a sub-professional certification in that field.
A Bachelors degree is a more specialized program, usually taking four to five years. Instruction is more intensive and the student is trained to be a working professional in the field. This can later serve as the basis for more advanced degrees such as a Masters degree, a Doctoral degree, or studies at a professional school (law, business, medicine, dentistry).
