Imagine studying in the comforts of your home, at your own pace, in front of your computer. Unlike a formal classroom setting wherein there's high interaction between the student and the teacher, distance learning involves only very limited interaction between the student and the teacher. These two individuals are separated by time and/or space, and interaction is mediated through technologies like computer, video and teleconferencing, emails and chats, print modules and books, and telephones.
The student learns at his own pace and convenience, following a structured program or curriculum. Distance learning courses are not as restrictive as formal classes, usually with fewer assignments and requirements.
