Routers are sometimes referred to as "hubs" or "switches." This piece of DSL hardware takes the incoming broadband signal and "routes" it to one of several incoming lines. This hardware is not required for you to have a DSL service; however, it is recommended that you buy a DSL router if you have more than one computer on which you want to have an active broadband DSL connection.
You should keep in mind that the router will split your broadband signal to those other computers and will result in a slower connection.
