Many people have been fooled by institutions offering a degree or diploma in 30 to 60 days or even less, only to discover that their "degree" is nothing but a worthless piece of paper.

Accreditation of learning institutions is important because it ensures that the school itself is a legitimate academic institution, that the faculty are trained in teaching and are experts in their fields of study. At the same time, it ensures that the degrees and programs are valid and not a scam. It guarantees that the school's programs and degree offerings are on a par with the standards of education and the demands of the professional world.

Accreditation allows for quality control of the services of an institution to its students. It makes sure that the school offers the necessary training, expertise, knowledge, and facilities their students need.

Accreditation is also valuable to a student applying for government loans and scholarships, as the government awards financial aid to students of accredited schools and universities.

In other cases, a student may want to transfer to a new school or university. If the previous institution is not accredited, the new school may not credit the courses taken by the student in his/her previous school. Accreditation is essential because it serves as a basis for a whether a school's course credits should be recognized by other such institutions.

Most employers also prefer their employees to come from accredited institutions, especially when considering them for promotion or for high-level positions.
