The concept of the hot air balloon is very simple and dates back many centuries. Hot air was has been used for toys for a long time now. The toy was a simple whole eggshell which was filled with hot air and children over the centuries played with it. Today, the hot air concept is used to fly hot air balloons. This works because of the simple explanation that hot air is lighter than cold air. The hot air trapped inside the balloon will float on the cooler air outside the balloon. This is how hot air balloons work.
Hot air balloons use burners to heat the air inside the balloon. If you want to descend, you simply allow the air inside the balloon to cool down.
