Beneath the big DSL service providers, there are a number of smaller companies that can offer you cheaper DSL service. This is because they have much lower operating expenses. The only catch is that most of these companies require you to spend a specific amount of time at an advertising website they give you. Also, customer support can be very unreliable. One way to get cheap DSL is to share a single reliable DSL connection with your neighbor. Although you will be sharing bandwidth, it can be cheaper and much more convenient.
Free DSL connections are very hard, if not impossible, to find. There are a number of fraudulent companies offering "free DSL" but you will end up spending money for something that is non-existent.
