Experiential education, also called "learning by doing," is a learning process that makes use of actual experience as a learning tool. Students discover and experiment with knowledge themselves rather than hearing or reading about the experience of others.
One clear example of experiential education is going to a zoo and learning through observation and at the same time interacting with the zoo animals. The educator values direct experience instead of teaching about animals through books and other instructional materials (a form of abstract knowledge).
