It will depend on the roofing material that is used in constructing your roof. Various types of insulation are available on the market, and each type is advised to be used with a certain type of roofing material for best results.
Also, the height from the tip of the roof down to the base of the roofing structure (a measurement called rafter depth) should be considered so that you will not over-insulate. Over-insulating only adds to your cost without adding any benefits.
