Inside mounted or recessed blinds hang inside the window frame for a neater finished look without hiding the window's wood trim. To hang inside mounted blinds:
- Measure the exact width of the window from the inside of the wooden frame on one side to the other. Take measurements from the top, middle, and bottom of the window in case it is not perfectly square. Round the measurements to the nearest 1/8” and record the narrowest measurement.
- Measure the exact height of the window opening from the inside edge of the top sill to the desired length of the blind. Take measurements from the right side, center, and left side, round to the nearest 1/8” and record the longest measurement.
- Measure the depth of the window frame excluding window cranks, inside trim and tracks. Measure the space available for installing mounting brackets.
Outside mounted blinds are installed outside the window opening either on the wood itself, above it, or on either side of it. If you want outside mounted blinds, then measure the wooden frame of the window from one outer edge to the other, taking the width, height, and depth as described above. Again, round your measurements rounded to the nearest 1/8”.
